My experience using blogs in the English class.

In comparison to other courses of English (IY II), in English  III have learned much more, mainly thanks to the teacher, because I feel that now I am thinking in English, which helps me to internalize the language more quickly, in a less Mechanics way, this is a great achievement for me, considering that I was never very good in English, in my school did not have a good level of english, which has made me feel at a disadvantage with my colleagues. Well, the use of blogs has been very helpful to me, because I think that the blogs are an excellent tool to improve reading and comprehension of English. As the weeks passed, writting in english has become easier and also I'm better reading in English, I think it's because of constant practice, it's also entertaining to write about topics that interest me, I believe that being interested in writing things that I like in English has boosted my learning a lot. In the future I would like to learn to speak more fluently and t...

My indignation

In Chile, the state buys every year an average of 400 million of pesos of methylphenidate, a derivate of amphetamine, with similar effects as cocaine, utilized in the treatment of ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), a psychiatric label that is utilized in schools all over the world, to pathologize perfectly normal child behaviors that don’t fit in the educational system. Instead of questioning the obviously obsolete educational system, children are being strongly drugged with this psychiatric drug, which not only doesn’t work as they advertise it, being a chemical doping for children to artificially achieve better results at schools and not a medical treatment of any means, but also is very dangerous for children’s health, being able to result in side effects such as cardiovascular issues, cerebrovascular issues, headaches, hallucinations, anxiety, height and sexual growth reduction, and even sudden death. I want to state my indignation, with the national education and...

A subject I have enjoyed

This term, the subject I enjoyed the most was Sociology of Gender, there we studied and debated about the ways in which mail domination and patriarchy have an influence in our ways of living, and in the way we organize as a society, and, most important of all, the history of feminist movement, and how it has evolved through the years, always questioning itself, including new and most effective ways to influence society as a whole. In terms of what we did at class, it wasn’t very different of any other subject I studied at university, but the content was so entertaining and useful for understanding in a deeper level domination, and for us thinking ways to contribute to subvert it. Other reason for me really enjoying the subject, is that i really liked the professor that was in charge of it, Silvia Lamadrid, she had a very good management of all the contents of the subject, and also really recent bibliography of the matter, which is very important for understanding the state of t...

Pierre Bourdieu was a French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher, known principally for his work about the dynamics of power in society, and the creation of the term “symbolic violence”. Son of a poor family in southern France, Bourdieu was born 1 st August 1930, he studied in a public school in Paris, where he gained access to the École Normale Supériure  where he studied philosophy.  After that he started teaching at a public school, until he was called to serve in the military for a year in Algeria, where he continued to be a lecturer during the years of the Algerian war (1958 – 1962), and undertook an ethnographic study about the Kabyle peoples, which result became the book “The sociology of Algeria”. After that, he served as a professor in different Paris’ universities, and in 1968, he took the director’s chair in the Centre de Sociologie Européene, where he continued working until his death in 2002. I admire Bourdieu because of the influence of ...
